The Sqwatchers Field Report
Incident: Possible Bipedal Figure / Head Anomaly on Trail Cam
Date of Report: July 20, 2026
Submitted by: The Sqwatchers Research Collective

Location

Gallatin County, north of Garden of the Gods, Illinois (specific coordinates withheld at source’s request for site protection).

Dense woodland/foothill terrain typical of the region, known for limited human traffic outside of seasonal hunting and hiking. The area features mixed hardwood forest with good cover and proximity to water sources—habitat characteristics frequently associated with historical Sasquatch reports in the Midwest.

Equipment

  • Standard trail camera (make/model not disclosed).
  • Mounted at average deer-height (roughly 4–5 feet off the ground).
  • Set to motion trigger with standard infrared/night vision or low-light capabilities.

Witness/Source Details

Incident Summary

In 2025 we received information that a trail camera captured at least two relevant images in sequence:

  1. First Triggered Image
A large, rounded shape consistent in size and positioning with a head/shoulder area is visible in the frame. Given the camera’s low mounting height (optimized for deer), the subject would need to be crouched, on all fours, or significantly larger than local wildlife to register at this vertical position. No clear body or limbs are distinguishable due to lighting, foliage, and distance, but the silhouette stands out against the background.
  2. Subsequent Image(s)
The source specifically noted a prominent black object visible in the background of the primary image. This object was absent in the immediately following triggered photo. The source confirms the black mass was not present before or after this single capture, ruling out (in their assessment) a stationary stump, rock, or permanent shadow.

No additional movement was captured on the memory card according to the source.

Analysis Notes (Preliminary)

  • Scale & Perspective: A standard deer-height camera makes a human head appearing at that level unusual unless the subject is bent over or kneeling. A quadrupedal animal (bear, deer) would typically show different proportions or multiple legs.
  • The “Black Object”: Its transient appearance in only one frame is noteworthy. Possible explanations include:
    • A second subject or portion of a subject moving through the background.
    • Lighting artifact or IR reflection (needs original file analysis).
    • Environmental factor (unlikely per source).
  • Environmental Context: Garden of the Gods and surrounding Gallatin County have a modest but consistent history of large bipedal reports and vocalizations in local folklore and databases (BFRO, etc.). The terrain offers excellent concealment.
  • Limitations: Low-resolution trail cam imagery, no thermal data, no follow-up scent, track, or hair collection reported. Single-witness source handling of the card.

Classification: Interesting but inconclusive. Warrants further monitoring of the site. Not yet ranked as a Class A visual, pending better imagery or corroboration.

The Sqwatchers will continue to collect and analyze credible trail cam and eyewitness data from the Midwest. If you have similar reports from Gallatin, Saline, or surrounding counties, please submit securely through our channels.

Stay vigilant. The woods are older than we are.
